Empowering Young Lives at Camp Freedom

This summer, Texas Valley Clinical Research was proud to help make a difference in the lives of children living with diabetes by sponsoring STJDA’s Camp Freedom-Residential—a unique overnight camp for children ages 6 to 14 in the Rio Grande Valley.
For one unforgettable week, campers got to just be kids—laughing, playing, and making new friends—while also gaining the tools and confidence to better manage their diabetes.
A Safe Place to Learn, Grow, and Have Fun
At Camp Freedom, traditional camp fun meets the specialized care kids with diabetes need. Many families know that overnight stays can be a challenge when medical needs are involved, but here, trained camp counselors and medical staff are always close by. This gives children the chance to experience:
- Arts & crafts that sparked creativity
- Outdoor games and adventures that encouraged movement and teamwork
- Water games and nature walks that brought joy and excitement
- Hands-on diabetes management practice that built lifelong skills
Why This Matters
Beyond the fun and activities, Camp Freedom equips campers with tools and knowledge they can use every day—helping them take an active role in their health. Learning how to manage diabetes in real-world settings fosters independence, confidence, and a sense of empowerment that can last long after camp ends.
Proud to Be Part of the Journey
We’re honored to have played a role in making this experience possible. Moments like these—filled with laughter, growth, and courage—are what inspire our ongoing commitment to supporting programs that put patients and families first.
Here’s to many more summers of fun, freedom, and confidence for every child who walks through Camp Freedom’s gates.
